Mustapha Ali

Mustafa Ali, the prominent sculptor of Syria, was born in Latakia in 1956. Renowned for his elegant and monumental sculptures that deeply resonate with viewers, emphasizing the vulnerability of humanity, he has been widely acclaimed and collected in the Arab world for almost three decades.
Having received training in sculpture at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Damascus, Mustafa Ali further pursued his studies at the Fine Arts Academy in Carrara, Italy, and successfully graduated in 1996. Since 1979, he has showcased his artwork extensively on the international art circuit, participating in prestigious events such as the Latakia Sculpture Biennial, where he was honored with the Golden Prize in 1997, the Biennial of Alexandria in Egypt in 1994, the Sharjah Biennial in 1995, and the International Symposium for Sculptors in Valencia, Spain, in 2001.
Mustafa Ali's sculptures are housed in private and public collections, including esteemed institutions in Syria like the National Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Damascus. Furthermore, his artwork can be found at the Jordan National Gallery in Amman, the Sharjah Museum of Art, and the Arab World Institute in Paris. Many of his bronze and wood sculptures are also displayed in public spaces, such as "The Gate of Syria" showcased at the Mediterranean Olympiad in Pari, Italy, and "The Tower of Memory" standing tall in the Damascus International Fairground.
As an integral figure in the Syrian art scene for many years, Mustafa Ali serves as the director of the renowned Damascus art center, The Mustafa Ali Art Foundation. The foundation organizes exhibitions, workshops, lectures, and cultural events throughout the year, benefiting local artists and the general public. Through his artistic endeavors and nonprofit efforts, Mustafa Ali has inspired and supported multiple generations of Syrian artists, leaving an indelible impact on the artistic landscape of his country.
