Abdallah Mourad

Abdullah Murad, a renowned artist, is recognized as one of the trailblazers of abstract expressionist Arab Art. He employs a unique approach to his paintings, combining various styles, brushstrokes, and mixed media collages on his canvases. In an interview, he eloquently describes his belief in the spontaneity of artistic expression, likening it to a captivating dance where one continually responds to the present moment.
Born in Homs in 1944, Abdullah Murad completed his studies at the Department of Painting, Faculty of Fine Arts, Damascus University, in 1970. His works bear a strong influence from the rhythmic Arabesque lines, incorporating vibrant fauvist colors and embracing the Abstract Expressionist movement. Murad's artistic energy fluctuates between frenetic and concentrated expressions to tranquil and minimalistic compositions. His asymmetrical arrangements guide the viewer's gaze through the artwork, inviting a seamless visual journey. By exploring the interplay between balance and imbalance, Murad employs a diverse range of techniques, from thick layers of paint to delicate, translucent overlays. His manipulation of textures and surfaces is further enhanced by the inclusion of collages featuring newspaper clippings and other forms of media.
