Explaining the fundamental aspects of his extensive career, Syrian artist Fadi Yazigi expresses his inclination to explore new materials and experiment with various means and forms in his artwork. Whether it's painting on canvas, cardboard, textiles, or papers using acrylic, oil, or ink, he aims to capture people and human emotions, each material evoking a unique sensation.
Hailing from Latakia, Fadi Yazigi (born in 1966) pursued his studies at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Damascus University. As a predominantly figurative painter, Yazigi centers his work around human emotions, demonstrating a sensitivity towards the individuals he encounters and portrays. An essential aspect of his artistic journey lies in his continuous experimentation with materials and techniques, allowing him to constantly reimagine his figures in fresh and innovative ways.
Often, Yazigi depicts ordinary individuals with their imperfections, both physical and psychological. While each face carries distinct expressions, the figures possess a similar rendering, blurring their individual identities. Whether reflecting worry or innocent smiles, they convey the responses and narratives of tragedy and war, a prevailing reality of life in Syria.
Fadi Yazigi's artwork has been exhibited internationally in both solo and group shows, featuring venues such as the Art Paris art fair, Galerie Tanit in Beirut, The Mosaic Rooms in London, the Sharjah Biennale in the UAE, among others. His works can be found in private and public collections, including The Delfina Foundation in London, A.M. Qattan Foundation, the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority, and the Kaleemat Foundation.
